Blood in stool...

DreamWorks Oct 18, 2009 05:07 PM

I have an issue with a dragon that recently lost its appetite and now has just had a stool with a good deal of blood in it.

What would cause this? How can this be treated?

Should I see a herp vet?

If this is a smaller dragon say 8 inches long... is this too young to consider medications?

Thank you

You do need to take the dragon to a vet with a fresh stool sample. Blood in the stool can mean a few different things, from a heavy parasite load to internal bleeding.

Small dragons can be treated with appropriate dosages of medication, if medication is required.

Problem is finding a good herp vet.

Im going to look into it.

Thanks for the response.

Parasites... that's not a good thing. Are there any natural type of treatments to flush out parasites or kill off internal parasites?

Thanks

I have him in a quarantine enclosure by himself.

What are you feeding him? And what substrate is/was he on?

Here's some websites to find a reptile vet.

Thanks

I will check those out.

He was on sand briefly but has been on paper towels and newspaper.

I have never fed from the sand though.

He eats hand raised dusted lobster roaches and leafy greens.
