Wicked Big Mawnsta just shed-New Pics

Jeff Schofield Oct 19, 2009 02:04 AM

I said they are new not great, LMAO, as usual. He wouldnt hold still but I did get him to pose for a nice head shot and beside this tape measure for comparison. You still need to extrapalate a bit, but he is all of 48"plus. To get 4' into a shot I had to back up so far you can barely see the snake, the table is 34" plus. I have about a another foot in my hand as you can see the vent isnt on the table yet! The obvious way to do it is to get someone to hold him next to something....looking for volunteers. Mine arent fish stories!

That is one HUGE milke snake. How big is that crack pipe next to the ash tray? Just kidding Jeff. (but it does look like one in the photo) LOL!

DMong Oct 19, 2009 12:10 PM

Custom 5" pipe with special insulated tip to prevent burning the lips..LOL!!

You may have seen more pipes than knives but they come in handy. You may notice my cutting board? I cut all the tails off my adult mice and freeze em in water for FF later if necessary. I use it with eggs too, its a pretty handy tool. You cant do everything with duct tape. I do hope these perspective pics are taken for what they are, not great pics but they make a pretty good point, lol. For the critics, NO, this is just a "normal" one, not green at all.

cn013 Oct 19, 2009 04:58 PM

Is that a finger nail? As usual it's difficult to discern with the shot being out of focus but just curious...

Wirey snake that won't sit still for a pic plus an 'exacto' knife sounds like a riot!!! Just goes to show I still have a lot to learn!

Jeff Schofield Oct 19, 2009 06:57 PM

Chris, when dealing with a guy this big wrangling is a hazard. There are pieces of aspen on the table, floor, everywhere(not a fingernail). That would be just another reason why I HATE taking pics. I go through the obvious pains to take em, post em etc and one guy mistakes a knife for a crack pipe and another is mad because its not far enough away to get the whole snake in and another is making fun of my dirty fingernails when holding the snake. Some guys are really good at taking pics, some have really nice animals. In a perfect world the person with the best animals would be the best at taking pics. Life isnt perfect. Get over it.

Jeff, I thought you would find some humor in the crack pipe comment. Come on, if it were my photo and you looked at it on the forum you too might mistake that "knife" for a crack pipe.

DMong Oct 19, 2009 08:08 PM

*** I thought it was funny as HECK!

I think Jeff did too, he just didn't say so..LOL!

RIGHT JEFF!!??

looks like Joe! Some of us are clean-cut, hardworking taxpayers. I have a tape measure, a knife and a cutting board and my grandfather's ashtray(I dont even smoke)with a ugly piece of dental floss in it...all on my living room table to take pics while I can make some money on the football game tonight. I can take a joke as much as the next guy, but how about commenting on the SUBJECT of the post?

joecop Oct 19, 2009 08:26 PM

I did if you look back at it. I said that is one big milk snake. Isn't that what you were trying to show us? Being a cop in D.C. for a long time I was exposed to several thousand crack pipes.(and crack heads) Basically a broken piece of car antena is what most are made of. It used to be pretty funny to drive through some bad streets and see all the cars with broken antenas.

Speaking of the game, you gotta love the Broncos in their snazzy green uniforms, eh? Ken.

cn013 Oct 19, 2009 09:50 PM

Don't hate on the Broncos! Come on even seeing my team here sharing a post is shameful.

markg Oct 21, 2009 01:20 PM

There are lot of characters in this hobby where the crack pipe-looking thingy is really a crack pipe.

Well generally you dont see any old crack addicts, lol. As far as "drug-proofing" my place for pics....I have known guys that can make ANYTHING into a bong so thats simply not possible. Cheers!

cn013 Oct 19, 2009 01:15 PM

At least it's not a shot of an animal in it's tub with crap everywhere! I'm sorry man had I known that was part of your overall aesthetic I'd have no been so critical of your husbandry...

Jeff Schofield Oct 19, 2009 06:39 PM

I pride myself in my animals, not my pic taking ability. I was the LAST guy in the classifieds to break down and finally post pics. I never really "believed" in the idea of pics, I dont surround myself with pics of kids or snakes or other conquests. I dont need others' "approval" of these things. My favorite song is "Cocky" by Kid Rock, "it ain't braggin mf if you can back it up". So when you see my pics you gotta know I opened the cage, snapped 4-5 quick pics and hope to get one that doesnt look horrible,LMAO. Snakes poop, and the more you clean their cage the more they poop, right? Never heard you criticize my husbandry, likely a good thing for you. I just dont have the time to fuss and fight with these guys like some guys do. Give kudos to them, I do.

Ahhhh yes, it's the old FR bait 'n' switch technique. It's like the Seinfeld soup nazi...."NO FOTOS FORRRRR YOU!!!!!!" LMAO.....ohhh I slay me........but nice Monstahs there spanky......u comin' up to the Melville, Long Island show this Sunday or the WP show end of November? Bring a monstah so we can drape it over my table. Nothing like enhancements.

I can just imagine the photo Doug Mong is going to post after that last statement.....

Jeff Schofield Oct 21, 2009 12:09 PM

Hey Jerr, pleeeease no FR comparisons! This reminds me of the joke "and you &^%$ one goat...." Right?I have snakes, you want nice snakes. I dont have nice snakes, you want pics. I have pics, you want better pics. And when I finally get decent pics...no one even says "good job" because there are guys in the forum that stay in Sat night and spend 5 hours getting that one "special" pic that blows us all away! So, I dont try and "win", I must be the soup Nazi! LOL
I dont think I will be going to another show for a while. Paying table fee money to have a bunch of kids come hold my snakes...fun, but not ideal considering the travel. And once you have seen a ball python and a leopard gecko..you finish the sentence. Thanks.

LIRepman76 Oct 21, 2009 08:14 PM

These pics that you posted on a public forum aren't for the public?

Yes your eastern milk is like so totally huge bro! You need a huge pat on the back. Both hands too!! Lol

Doug, is that the one you had to assist feed monkey tails to for three weeks?

snake_bit Oct 21, 2009 09:53 AM

Those monkey tails are getting harder to find these days
but they sure do the trick on those stuborn Mag Mt hatchlings

DMong Oct 21, 2009 10:53 AM

Thats a amazing ltt.I wonder how long it takes them to get that big.I read about one from PA on the FH forum a few years ago that was about that big.I think the guy said 48".It was a wild caught and he had some pics.I wonder if the best way to photo for size is just to tail hold them on your side and have someone take a pic.

Snakes just hate guys with cameras i think

joecop Oct 21, 2009 10:00 AM

I noticed how Paul had them all by the head and you let their heads be the guide----right into your skin. LOL!! Snakes seem to really like your hands Doug. Didn't that eastern king I caught bite you a few weeks back also? You have to stop using that mouse scented hand soap. Back to the topic, Jeff's milks are HUGE. I think maybe a measuring tape along the base of a wall and letting the snake "crawl the wall" is a good way to get some decent photos to show how big they are.

Jeff Schofield Oct 21, 2009 10:29 AM

If I am far enough away to get a 4' snake stretched out in the pic....I am too far away to even ID the snake!LOL! I am trying to have him crawl along the side of a 55 gallon fish tank(everyone should know exactly how long that is!)but I back up and the snake almost dissapears in the photo. Its frustrating, and pics have never been that important before so I'm simply not good, no patience.

DMong Oct 21, 2009 11:03 AM

Right on Joe,...that's always a simple easy way to get snakes to stay straight and in-line with the tape measure.

For most colubrids(up to exactly 5 feet), I can usually finesse them into being pulled straight for very accurate measurements, but with my 8 ft. Boas, that "wall" method worked AWESOME!!
