Hey everyone, I need some help.
I bought a baby Argus monitor back in September and it seemed to have little scars on its tail and back left thigh. I assumed they were possibly from either a bad shed or maybe from one of the other babies it was housed with before I purchased it. The leg scar doesn't inhibit his/her movement.
However, I noticed now the little "scars" on the tail (3 main, 1 smaller and faint) have become almost groove-like on the tail, similar to the edge of a serrated knife. They are widely spaced. I'm wondering if this is a common deformity/malformation or if it is like I presumed, a scar or just the end result of a bad shed after it was born. I am not new to reptiles or monitors, but this is my first Argus and the first time I've come across this "problem".
My biggest concern/worry is the tail possibly loosing function or worse, the loss off the tail itself from the scars deepening and cutting off circulation as the tail grows.
He/she has grown from about 12 inchs in Mid Sept. to about 16 now, has shed 2 times so far and has a great appetite.
If anyone has any idea what this tail problem could be, I would greatly appreciate it or any help in general. I will try to upload pics of the tail later in the day as my camera battery needs to be recharged.
Thanks- Chris
