I might have a Leucistic Savannah

ajfreptiles Oct 21, 2009 12:56 PM

Is it already produced? I have a Savannah monitor that was very high orange color and then it is shedding now but the scales are bone white and she has clear fingernails. If anyone has any info on Savannahs please post or share, I have had Savannahs in the past but someone got this one from a local breeder so I decided to keep her as a store pet...now she is turning white so I need info. It does look similar to the albino Savannah I saw but still unsure.

Thanks Andy Federico

That is just a pretty sav! There are albinos and such out there, but no luck.

What you're seeing is what happens when an animal previously fed a less-than-perfect diet eats a good diet. Happens with a lot of creatures. They go from dull to vibrant. Its very distinct in birds that are taken home and fed a good diet after having lived at general petstore. I've seen adult imported monitors become absolutely gorgeous after being wormed, well fed, and then shedding once or twice.

True leucistic animals have entirely black eyes and no pattern whatsoever. True albino animals have no black pigment whatsoever - so those eyes would be red or blue, not that pretty hazel brown color.

You have a nice, prettier than average savannah monitor. Congratulations.

Thanks for the info! I just had never seen this color on the savannahs before so I thought I would ask. Thanks Andy
