Heated hide box

Tri Sep 17, 2003 06:06 PM

hi, i'm looking to make a heated hide box for my colony of stars. the box itself will probably be no larger than 32"w) x 12"d) x 10"h) . right off hand, i'm thinking of a ceramic heater connected to a thermostat. is this a good way to go? can someone recommend a different method? thanks. tri

I use this method (ceramic - above heat) for my outdoor enclosure for box turtles in San Francisco where the temps are just shy of warm enough for temperate or tropical species. Another option is to use Kane heat mats as flooring (below heat) with a rubber (vented) cover like the material used for cheap welcome mats or in mechanic garages. The cover just allows the torts to not sit directly on the heat mat but still benefit from the heat emitted.

Check out Kane Heat mats. I bought mine at TheBeanFarm.com.

paul, thanks for the reply. i've always wondered about those kane mats. how do you control the temp on them. for example, if i want to maintain a 75F ambient temperature how do i do it with the kane mats. thanks, tri

Check the Kane website (link below pic). They can be hooked up to a theromostat.
