24" 290g female.. would you breed her?

Hi guys,

Question for you. I have a female albino hog that was born last spring/early summer of 2008. Right now she is just over 24" and 290g empty after her shed.

Would you cool her down and breed her this year? I have been trying to research and find "safe sizes" but almost everything I find lists only 300g , not the actual age to go with that.

She would be roughly 20 months of age by the time she was brumated and actually introduced to the male. I have never bred hogs before so I want to make sure I do it the right way and not push it.

Thanks!

Yes, she will be old enough and large enough.
I had to laugh about your last comment. "I have never bred hogs before so I want to make sure I do it the right way and not push it."
Clearly you have pushed. She's been fed heavy to be 290 grams.
Just my opinion based on experience with my collections.

Thanks for the info!

She is fed 3 to 4 times a week since we got her. She would probably eat everyday as she always looks hungry. What I have done is fed her more often smaller meals instead of larger meals less often. It seems to work well with all of the hogs that I have =)

What I meant by push her is, if two years and 300g is the "safe margin" then I would not risk it this year and would wait until next year to breed her. I know things happen with breeding, but I want to minimize those problems as much as possible.

Thanks again!
Jessica
