Ya mean just the middle of the snake with no head or tail...yeah, it would definitely bum me out...unless maybe I got it for half price...even if it IS a lodingi.

Baby black pines look like cottonmouths, so I guess that is what this snake is.

I actually like a bit of color on black pines(I like the all black ones too), it makes me wonder how much if any is the influence of southern pines.

good, I am glad that I am not the only one who sees a resemblance between young lodingi and Agkistrodon piscivorus.........

notice the complete lack of lateral saddles found in most Pituophis, but rather dorsal blotches that extend laterally to the ventrum.......

here he is again from another veiw

Good point about the uni-saddles John...I hadn't jelled up on that yet. Makes it look even more like a fish-eater...btw, do those Ankistrodons piscivorouses really eat fish?

mattkau Oct 23, 2009 11:46 PM

Some individuals will eat almost anything they can swallow. I kept one that I collected here in Louisiana for a little while. Aside from the usual rodents, he ate: fish, frogs, and lizards. I would not have trusted that particular one in a cage with another snake, of any kind. That was back in my younger days, I don't keep venomous anymore.

Oh yeah, they absolutely love to eat fish. But then again, they love to eat period. When I was still doing venomous, roughly until 17 years ago, I had a large female which took just about anything, even drumsticks and frankfurters. The male on the other hand, was much more peculiar.
