Reptile Husbandry Software

Omnivorous Oct 23, 2009 09:00 PM

I am not sure if this is the right section to post but I will try here. Does anyone use any Reptile Husbandry Software for keeping and storeing records, pictures, maintainance, feeding, & breeding information? I was looking into useing something like this for my reptiles. I have both snakes & lizards.

If I use a simple google search I dont get much, and some of the software looks suspicious. Basicaly I am seeing Metzcal or Degi but the Degi one says it doesnt really support Vista and I use a Vista 64-bit computer. Anyone have any others? Nobody really uses them? Any other brands?

This topic comes up on occasion in other forums I attend and some people find great use for them. I unfortunately do not recall specific programs, but they are out there, just keep looking. Perhaps someone here will offer some specifics.
From what I gather from these discussions is that it's nothing more than a fancy spreadsheet. So if you are familiar with something like Microsoft Excel, you could set up something quite similiar, and perhaps even more tailored to your specific means. For me, I don't find it convenient to keep my records on computer. This might change if I ever get a laptop, but for now, I prefer, and like, to keep my records on simple lined looseleaf paper in duotangs (my wife tells me this is Canadian teminology... it's basically a folder with tabs to hold the paper by the ringholes. My notes sometimes get quite excessive and detailed and I can imagine it could get quite jumbled in a fixed computer program/text field.

I hope someone here has a more firsthand opinion to offer

I use Herp Care software for my snakes. =) Great little program and free. It can be found here: http://www.thegeckocam.com/hcs/what/index.php and it's free (with an optional donation). It's pretty much just a fancy spreadsheet but cool because it will give reminders about feedings, you can add pictures, species names, etc.

I use excel for my beardie.

I have used Metzcal and Degei. I ran Degei on Windows 7 without an problem. Not terribly impressed with either one but leaning toward Degei right now...
