What's Better?

In regards to incubators, what is better fan or no fan? Wouldn't a fan regulate temperature better?

Fan definately. Keeps it nice and even.

I think it entirely depends on your set up.

I took the fan out of mine mid way through last season -- didn't even use it through this one with no real difference. But I use a large cooler for an incubator. I believe if you use something more verticle for an incubator you'll likely end up with more hot air pockets requiring circulation.

I was thinking along the lines of a hova bator. Should I get a fan or not. Or is there a better model/brand to use for a couple of clutches.

I would go with a fan, but thats just my opinion. Hovabators are small so I think the fan is nice just to be sure it stays even and no over heating which I have heard of happening before. But then again, somebody else might have better ideas Hope someone can help a little better.

I just hatched out two perfect clutches with Hobavators that had no fans. I don't think it's needed.

A fan in a Hovabator is going to take humidity out of the environment. You don't want that to happen. No fan in a small space. Bigger spaces with fans that blow indirectly...okay.

In bigger incubators a fan is fine but generally most keepers are in and out of their incubators so much that a fan is not needed to circulate the air.

If you have a larger incubator and you don't check on your eggs every couple days then a fan would be nice but just opening and closing your incubator every couple days is plenty of circulation you need.

I also only currently use hovabators because I don't breed a ton but my hovabators don't have fans and I hatch out snakes just fine.

This is just MY general rule. Add the total of the perimiter of the container and devide it by two. Example if you have a snake that is 2 foot long the total perimiter of the container should be no less than 4 foot total. A container that is 24" 15" = 39 x 2 = 78" Divided by 2 = 39" A snake that is no larger than 39" should be good to go, My opion only..... Basicly 1/2 the total perimiter of the container.
