BREEDING IS GOING WELL

TOM_CRUTCHFIELD Oct 25, 2009 06:26 PM

Well I've been seeing LOTS of courtship and breeding but I usually don't have my camera with me. Here's a pic I took of one of the male V. mcreai chasing a female and a pic a friend took today of my pair of V. prasinus copulating. I'm going to start bringing my camera when I'm servicing the enclosures or when I'm just looking for fun and hopefully have better pics soon...

Tom, The fruits of your labor are working well from what it looks like. I know you guys in Fl are seeing some weather patterns that have alot to do with the monitors breeding. I know up north here it was usually late October for the GTM and Kordensis breedings. I like this time of year only for the fishing up here and the monitors getting active, they both happen about the same time. Its the ice storms and snow that follow that I can live without. Congrats on your husbandry!
Great job!

Good Luck on the breedings Tom!

How old are the prasinus pair? The one on top looks very.... "feminine"?!?!

The pair of prasinus were big juveniles in Jan. this year but he is a male albeit a young one. Great observation though....

Yeah the age would explain his girlish good looks I know you've been around varanids enough to know the difference but don't you hate that tweener stage when they can look like a female one day and then a male the next.

My egg never hatched but Frank said it's not bad yet...we'll see. The pair I was working with aren't mine and I was laid of from that job so I don't get to work with them pretty beasts anymore, but someday I'd like to get a NICE pair for myself.

Nate
