we have a big open field near our house and our dogs are in kennels. I heard one barking so i went to check it out and saw the snake. quickly got it up in a bucket.
This is the first year I have ever seen them out there. The first one I found in May. This is the 2nd one this year.
would it be ok to put this rat snake in with the other rat snake we found in may? just wondering if it would be fine to have them in the same aquarium or buy a new one for this little one.
Looks like another Black Rat snake though it could be a Grey Rat... Where are you located? On the East Coast I'd say Black Rat- more to the Mid-West possibly a Grey Rat. I'd keep it separate from your other snakes to prevent the spread of any parasites. Nice looking little snake!

we live in Eastern NC.. which by the way is about to get hit by Hurricane Isabel tomorrow.
Well actually depends on your definition of eastern NC. I live along the coast and all I ever come across is the Black/Yellow intergrade the "greenish" ratsnakes. If you go inland as far as Mt. Olive you can find true black rats even though this is still considered eastern NC.
yep we are about near I-95 area near Hope Mills, NC
I'd have to say black rat for sure from that area. You are far enough west not to have too much problem with intergades. Cool find.
i just fed it a small pinkie.. defrosted and warmed a bit and he ate it with no problem. just hope he calms down, he still likes to pretend strike and tail wagging. pretty colors though.
