Mating / Temps / RI

livinginvestment Oct 25, 2009 10:18 PM

Hello...

I have posted before regarding my female looking to be pregnant and now am asking again.

It was recommended that I add the male back with her as she seemed to be only ovulating. I did and there has been no activity. They copulated the previous month regularly. So, Im guessing she is already pregnant. The male I had with her is starting to wheeze so I moved him and up'ed the temps. Im worried that now she may be infected with RI.....fun!

I have one other male that I'll put with her to see if she is throwing out pheromones. Is this risking infection to the new male?

I guess my question is just how contagious is RI?

Thanks,

Kenny

Is the original male you had in with her in shed cycle? Sometimes a boa will have a slight wheeze when they're in shed cycle and they'll also slow down or stop breeding.

Normally, a RI is more of a "rattle" that you can "feel" when your snake is breathing.

Unless you've dropped temps/cooled your boas, it's not likely that your male has an RI. It's still best to remove him, for now.

As for putting another male in with her..... If there's "any" chance that the original male has an RI, you shouldn't be putting another male in with the female.

Has your female started a shed cycle?? In most cases, a female will have a POS after the male loses interest.

Did you see any obvious swellings in the female prior to the original male loosing interest??

If you keep notes, you need to go back and review your notes, to make sure you didn't miss something. If you don't keep notes.... It's time to start keeping notes on "any" thing you see that's out of the ordinary.

The male last shed on 9/22 and is not due to shed again for another 20 days. The female last shed on 10/2, right on schedule but, right after they stopped copulating too...

The male seems back to normal and seems hungry. He will be left alone till next season.

I went ahead and placed another male in with her last night and they were copulating within ten Min. Even with a heat wave here is SoCal, they are still at it.

I did not catch any signs of ovulation unless that is what she is going tough now. Here are some pics. Her last big feed was on 9/8 and sh has had 2 small meals since...she seems very hungry as well.

These pics I just took of them copulating.

Here she is back on 10/17

And here is the original male and her back on 9/23

WOW!!

If you go by the second male, the first one didn't finish the job.

This second guy looks like he knows what he's doing. If the swelling was a pre-ov swelling, then the ovulation "should" follow in 1 to 4 weeks. I seen some go longer after the pre-ov swell, but that's not the norm. Normally it's fairly quick after the pre-ov.

So, be watching for a nice swelling. It shouldn't be hard to miss. It will look like she swallowed a very large meal. She'll have LOT of scale seperation and she'll almost look like she's in pain. She will be stretched out like a bloated whale. BTW, I'm only guessing what the size of the ovulation will be by the size of the pre-ov swell.

BTW that's an AWESOME pair.

Thank you. This guy is a stud and won't quit. I'll give him a break next week and throw in an 07 Anery Het Snow to see if has anything to offer.

How much do they usualy increase in weight (if they do at all) once the babies start to develop? I weighed her in at 24 lbs before the start.

Thanks again!
