albino Crotalus precastus

DMong Oct 26, 2009 01:58 PM

LOL!,.......Yes, it's a rattlesnake, and it does has red eyes, but it is actually a plaster of paris replica that was made from a real rattlesnake.

About thirty years ago, I sold a 6 foot Reticulated python to a neighborhood buddy of mine, and when I saw this replica at his house, I told him I'd knock $20 bucks off the price of the snake if he gave it to me as part of the price, and he was more than willing to get the snake for a lower amount.

This has been the center-piece of my coffee tables ever since then..LOL!

I hate to say it but I have 0 snake stuff (apart from husbandry tools) around the house. I do have a few frog and lizard posters but no snake art or anything. I may comission a piece from a lady I know that's good at herp art though. I'd love to have an 18X24" high quality drawing of my reticulated python's head.

DMong Oct 26, 2009 04:34 PM

I agree, that would be WAY cool!

OH, the fun I could have with that thing!

DMong Oct 26, 2009 02:51 PM

LOL!!,...I year ya!..HAHA!

I've had many people come in and sit down on the couch before and after they've looked around a bit and happened to look down at it, .....watched their faces change looks into sheer panic and thought it was a real one that got loose or something..LOL!

You're right, you could play some KILLER pranks with this thing, and really send some people through the roof. Like putting it under some stuff in a drawer, or behind a door, or in the bathroom, etc...HAHAHAHAHA!!!

DMong Oct 26, 2009 04:35 PM

HAHAHAHA!!,....that would be a RIOT to do to some buddies!..LOL!

Sounds like stuff I do!

I did that with a DOR C. viridis once. My parents were PO'd--they'd been driving up here from Houston to visit me and I stuck it coiled around my toliet. I just put the squished part behind it so they couldn't see that.

DMong Oct 26, 2009 04:37 PM

HAHAHA!!,..that would have me cryin' my eyes out laughing!!..LOL!

I actually do quite a few reptiles. Both skin mounts and reproductions.

Here is a reproduction that I made of a Cuban Rock Iguana. Took it to the 2009 World Taxidermy Championships in St. Charles, MO this past May and received a First Place in Reptile Reproduction (Open/Professional Division).

Just have to have good specimen to start with (no damage).

Yes, they make good conversation pieces and colloector's items.

Awesome Kerby!,....yeah, I certainly remember you being a professional taxidermist.

That is killer!

Wish I lived by you to have gotten my 44-3/4" Snook done from the early 90's. I got LOTS of other huge fish as well, but this is the biggest snook I actually landed so far to date. Several other's were just about as big, and a few maybe even bigger have busted-off on the barnacle encrusted pilings too.

Hey man, damn nice snook,I have been reading this forum for a couple of years now, love you guys info etc but gotta respond to the linesider!Don't mean to get too far off the snakes but I am on the west coast of fl(Bradenton)been trying to catch one of that caliber for twenty years.I quess it's how you look at it but she is just as pretty as any of the snakes i've seen.Congrat's

DMong Oct 27, 2009 10:41 AM

Thanks buddy!,..........

I really appreciate the compliment!. I also know that you know what you're talking about too, because it is definitely a big female, and it is also world-class sized. No world record, but definitely world-class that ANYONE would be very proud of catching,.......and I couldn't be more happy about landing that big girl either. When I saw her finally come up on her side along the dock, I just couldn't believe my eyes at the size of that sucker, and my heart was beating out of my chest like I just ran a marathon...LOL!

thanks again, and good luck to you landing a MONSTER snook sometime soon!

Here are a couple more nice snook I landed in the early 90's too that are 42" inches long or better.

Here is one of my favorite portrait shots of a brooks floridana to help keep in theme with things here on the king forum..LOL!

Congrats again.Temps have been dropping(finally)you may have just inspired me to get in the river sat.morning.I am sure you already know that they move off the beach to the warm mud in the river for the winter. Not the big females(I don't know where they go or I might have caught one by now)but steady 8-10 pounders.Beautiful brooksi, recently got the bug.hogs and greybands till now,but I think what you and Rainer and a few others have been doing has locked me in on a new direction. But I have said that before!Happy repping and fishing.

WOW!,....whoever did that for you has some real talent!

That is REAL cool!,......you can definitely tell it's a thayeri as well. Is it a walking stick?

Here are a couple other similar snake things I have in the living room.

This is a generic snake carving my mom gave to me for last Christmas.

A Sinaloan Milksnake framed stamp...I have TONS of other framed snake stamps too.

some abstract framed art I did with a photo of my Tangerine Honduran milksnake

and a framed Banded Krait stamp from India

Those are all pretty nice Doug....
The walking stick was produced by an person that used to post on this forum about 5 or so years ago.....His name was Toby....I'll have to look at the signature on it for his last name....LOL
I sent him pics of one of my favorite Thayeri...and he put every scale on it...Carved out of a 4" log.....

There are some mistakes (solid white ventral scales mainly) but I like it alot...

Hey Todd (antelope) show some pics of your 6' Holbrooki walking stick that Toby made for you.....It's pretty nice too.....

Wow!,..Todds got a Speckled king walking stick too?,...that is super cool!

Was it the same guy who made Terry M's(with the "mega" line) tangerine Hondo walking stick?...his looks REAL similar to yours, only a totally different kind of snake..LOL!

Jlassiter Oct 26, 2009 08:57 PM

Maybe...I've only seen mine and Todd's....
The name of the guy who made them is Thomas (not Toby...oops) Burnham...Does he still post here?
I do see a Thomas posting from time to time...I wonder if it's the same guy.....LOL
I've been out of it too long......glad to be back though...

I found this guy hidden several years ago hidden in a box deep in my grand parents attic while I was helping to clean out their house after they past away.. My cousins & other family members fought over jewelry, watches, lamps, crystal, TV's and furniture. I wanted and took only this one masterpiece!! I still think I did the best!

RIP G&G... Your statue is safe with me..

Boy!,..that's pretty darn unique!, can't say I've EVER seen anything resembling that statue in my life.

I also have some charished pieces of my grandparent's, and it reminds me of them whenever I look at it too bro.

Thanks for sharing those things.
