Young Abanja Panther Stopped Eating...what do I do?

masterplan May 25, 2003 12:57 PM

I have a young, male Abanja Panther Chameleon (approx. 14 weeks) that was eating just fine for the past three weeks. Now, for the past three days he has stopped eating altogether. He is still fairly active and drinks water.

I don't know if it's "cricket boredom" or just a fast, but I'm getting concerned because of his small size.

I would be happy to vary his diet but I don't know what else he can eat at such a small size. I have had people steer me away from mealworms as they are hard to digest, but at least they are a size he could eat.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks~

i knwo from my personal experiance that when a cham stops eating it is one of two things 1. not serious or 2. very serious

if ytou are dumping the crix into the enclosure alone, are there a ton still in there? if not he is eating and you are just not seeing it.

you can also try to ffed it some meel worms, wax works, buttr worms, and super worms ... see if he prefers anything else, and give him some variety.

if none of this works, i suggest taking him to a vet to get him checked on ... just insure that you are prepared to provide the best care possible for your cham

i hope this all helps you greatly

Thanks for the suggestions. I am going to first try to mix-up his diet a bit and just hope I don't feed him something too big for his small size. If he still doesn't eat, then it's off to the vet...

I'll keep you posted. Thanks again!

Hi- You should try another food source like silkworms. Chameleons do tire of being feed the same food over and over again.

Hope this helps!
