Off topic - new pet in the snake room

zach_whitman Oct 28, 2009 01:55 AM

Check this guy out. He is a rescue and is kinda jacked up in some ways but he has started to recover nicely. I have a general policy of not naming animals without ears, but for this dude I have made an exception.

Meet... Mr. Fancypants

And his new abode... I have been wanting to build one of these forever...

Nice Zach, but why are you feeding them dead dogs? Any lizard keeper knows they like them alive. hahahahahahahahahaha

While we are off topic. I have a 9 month old puppy who is well trained but insane, she never lays down like that. She is mostly elevated over our heads. Her saving grace is, she has found two snakes so far. Cheers

Yeah the black one is 10 months and while well trained the energy level is a little excesive. The above pic is post-3-hour-hike. Ahh relaxation...

That looks like a great Chameleon setup!, and I'll bet he is much happier with you rather than the substandard environment he had before.

I guess as long as the dogs are easy-going, and don't jump around alot and stress the Chameleon out, it is fine, but I DO know they can stress sometimes from surroundings like that where there might be too much surrounding activity.

He looks pretty darn healthy too!, his colors are nice and vibrant, and his body is nice and full without wrinkles, etc...

way to go on the cool rescue Zach!

Mr. Fancypants HATES the dogs. They are so confused why they aren't allowed in the snake room with me any more. I only let them in sometimes when they are in a chill mood.

Overall the cham has a pretty chill life, the door to the room stays closed to keep the cats out so he only has to deal with commotion for the hour or two per day that I am messing around in there.

But... but... lizards DO have ears, Zach!

He's awesome. I'd love to do a hanging "cage" like that when I get a cham for my boyfriend. Waiting until we move to Texas first though, wouldn't want to stress him out over the move.. (the boyfriend AND the chameleon.) haha.

There are lots of lizards without external ears. Chameleons in particular have one of the worst range of hearing of any reptiles. My snakes likely "hear" better than the chameleon.

Hollychan Oct 29, 2009 08:16 AM

But you just said you didn't name pets without ears.. you didn't say without "external" ears, dear. :D

Just teasing you, of course.

All of my animals have names... easier to keep track of them that way.. though, my menagerie doesn't go above 20 animals so far... haha. When it does, they'll probably start getting assigned numbers, lol.

Exactly! Especially since all of the cold-blooded pets currently have the serial killer names.... hahaha.
