have an adult from southern az . has not fed ....any advice?
tried small garter snake and small lizard.

Go to the "Small Terrestrial Snakes" forum that is two forums below this one on the main page, many of those guys have these same subspecies, and they could give you some excellent advice there.

That forum is barely kicking most of the time. I check it on a semi-regular basis but the people who actually have considerable experience with small terrestrial snakes don't stop by nearly as often as they used to.
