Ack, what is this tarantula??

MsPony Oct 28, 2009 08:57 PM

I apologize if this is in the wrong forum, I did not see an invert. forum!

My boyfriend really wants a tarantula (we have snakes, frogs and a beardie so we aren't TOO new to reptiles. I also work with very experienced herpers.) and my coworker told me to get this cool tarantula thats incredibly blue in color. I can't remember the name of it, even though its something easy, and its not a cobalt blue tarantula.

Also, how do I know what a good breeder is? I looked at the breeders listed, but I am so unsure or where or how to get this tarantula!

Thank you for all your help =)

I have kept a few spiders over the time and I have learned a LOT of the ones I look at and go "OHHHHH COOL" are usually highly aggressive species with high toxicity.

I wonder if you are thinking of the green bottle blue.

Personally I would suggest for a first spider getting one of the plain ones simply to learn a bit on how they move and live. I had a cobalt in the rescue. That thing was frighteningly fast and I swear he wanted to eat my face! Then again I have also had an Orange Baboon, which is also noted for its mental instability. He was more of a pussycat, hiding a lot. He did occasionally throw hairs.

I have kept rosehairs, b.albop and now a pink toe. Of the three the pink toe has been somewhat boring. In the end when looking, get something that doesnt burrow. They are more visible species.

BTW I have attached the link to our Invert forums, I know very little but they should be able to help a little more.

Thank you!!

My problem was solved Sunday, as the boy found me a local brown tarantula while we were off roading in the mountains. They are SUPER mellow, just about every local herper has one because they come right up to you. She/he is a juvenile, judging by our 8 month old rose hairs at work, he is about a year, give or take. Awesome eater, very friendly!

They grow huge though, a friend saw one with a 6-8" leg span walking across the road. Good thing they are friendly and mellow right?
