Hognose Classifieds ~ Revisited

giantkeeper Oct 29, 2009 08:30 AM

Not to take anything away from the magnificent Anery Kennerlyi or Ms. Twix, but I wanted to bring this up.....

Due to the large amount of Hognose (read Heterodon) posted in the classifieds as of late I wanted to bring up the conversation again.

Jeff B, are we getting there yet? I likely could be troubled for a sponsorship spot on the new Hognose Classifieds too :O)

It's really sad that I only have two good pictures of two of my hognose. I'm officially calling myself lazy!

We always take user input as one of the factors when we decide to split out categories. Generally it's one of the major factors. Other factors include such things as existing contracts, maintenance and management, perceived versus actual need. Actually generating new sponsorships is never taken into account.

Our advertisers in most cases are very split on the subject, in general. A few want the split so that the advertising and customers can all be clustered/focused around a single vertical, others would rather leave it combined so that they can hopefully draw in someone that otherwise may not have considered that animal.

This is a debate we are also considering with Crested Geckos, they are much closer to seeing a split but the vendors I spoke with in Chicago were dead against the gecko split.

Here is my input if you care for it. There are tons of cresteds for sale, so seing them have thier own page would be cool in my opinion. For me its just so I wouldnt have to go through them all to find the neat little geckos like cat geckos & banded geckos. To me the other snake classifieds are just fine. Yeah there are alot of hogs for sale on there, but there are also alot of pits too, & to me pits are more deserving of thier own page. But remember, any of us can simply use the search at the top of each classified page & type in hognose snake, bullsnake, or what ever we are looking for & not have to look through everything.

Right now on the other snakes classifieds just the 1st page alone there are only 18 hog ads, & a total of 31 for pits.

I'm not trying to piss anyone off here, just thinking how much easier it would be to go through the other snakes ads if the pits had thier own, plus there are obviously more pit people so why not hook them up 1st.

Dan,

Anybody that would be mad by your post is being a baby. I personally would like to see a Hognose Classifieds sections because I like looking at what I want and not filtering data. I'm lazy.

I imagine Pitophous people would like having their own page too, but since I don't work with them I'm generally not all that concerned with it :O)

Thanks Jeff, I just wanted to throw it out there again.

I would like to register my own vote for either a hog or a pit split in the classifieds-whichever has the most ad volume (I have lots of both, so either way I'm good ). I too my be hit up for a sponsorship....

And I DEFINITELY think cresteds should have their own category, for the reason already mentioned-if you're looking for other gecko species, you have to wade through literally pages of crested ads!

The Avalanche has already started-it is too late for the pebbles to vote....

Great considerations by all.

May I suggest the following: Once a popular, easy-to-care-for type of snake has a few reproducible, predictable and attainable morphs under its belt, it be considered in its own category apart from "Other Snakes."

I do understand that more detail equates to more maintenance. Kingsnake is a great site, and I can appreciate whatever you decide to do or not do.

I would like to be able to just look up all of the classified adds for hognoses by one click. Something why I would be opposed to it is, when people constantly see the adds for hognoses they might start to click on them and become interested in them. A seperate section could backfire on them that way. I know I have checked out more snakes than I knew I was interested in by searching for something that I was looking for. Just a couple of my pennies lol.

About time Hogs got their own section, get really sick of them always being listed as 'Other snakes'' !!!!!!!
