Longevity of Red Spitter??

ZX14 Oct 29, 2009 01:40 PM

Anyone have any info on the longevity of a Red Spitting Cobra (Naja Pallida)? Just curious how long my guy could possibly live......thanx....Todd

Cause they are higher strung and have higher metabolisms, do they live shorter lives than say a rat snake??

Well over 20 years.and could exceed 30.Most snakes have good long lives if properly cared for.

We had a pallida that Mike Goode at the Columbus gave us that just passed at the age of 42 years old.

of my teenage years in Ohio in the 70s, visiting the awesome Reptile House at the columbus zoo. Back then Goode was curator (and later on in this period Jack Hannah was Zoo Director), and he amassed an incredible collection, scrupulously maintained in large, gorgeously-decorated enclosures. In particular I recall a large display with about a half-dozen bright-red pallida. What a great display they were!

I also saw my first Taiwan Beauty Snakes there, and vowed to one day own some myself (which I did).

To me that is a beautiful story 41 years that snake was well loved and took care of.
