Rare snakes

apocalyp Oct 29, 2009 04:26 PM

I'm gonna be expanding my snake collection in the next couple years to probably 8-10 different snakes. I'm not really looking at doing any breeding except for a pair of Dumeril's but I'm looking for interesting species to keep.

Right now I've got 2 Dumeril's, 1 JCP and 1 blotched king. I'm gonna be getting a Green Tree Python and possibly an Amazon Tree Boa.

I'm not sure what other species to get though. I've considered, Nicaraguan's, brazilian Rainbow Boas and Taiwan Beauty snakes but I was wondering if anybody in the community would have any recommendations?

I'm not worried about handling aggressive species although obviously i'd prefer tamer species.

What do you guys recommend?

Thanks

Forest cobras can make for an "interesting" evening...but that's probably not the direction you're headed...

Yeah I must admit they would make interesting snakes, if not for the venomous part hehe.

I love large snakes although I have to keep species that don't generally get much bigger than 6-7' because of local bylaws.

If you want some cool colubrids, you can't go wrong with some awesome "extreme" hypo Honduran milksnakes, and a few other types pictured below too.

a VERY nice extreme hatchling I produced this year

and the very robust high-yellow brooks phase Florida King!

Outer Banks Kings(L.g.sticticeps) are awesome too, and the rarest form of the getula complex. This is a neat aberrant striped female.

here is a "classic" Outer Banks King

Black milksnakes become a solid shiny black, and are very large and robust colubrids as well. They look very similar to an Indigo. There are many other's too, but here are a few choices that I really like and own among many other types too.

Good luck on your quest to find some additional cool stuff.

best regards, ~Doug

Nice snakes, nice doors, nice moulding, nice dog! Is that a Cairn terrier by chance?

Love that yellow Florida king!

LOL!,....thanks Mark!,

The luxury townhouse I live in now is pretty nice, and is also brand new, so it has some very nice classy features about it. The snake pic with my dog was taken upstairs in the loft area, where you also see the computer which is next to the desk I sit at typing this now as a matter of fact..LOL!

My cute little buddy "Bucky" is actually a Miniature Wire-haired Dachshund. I'm glad you like him too, and I love the cute little guy with all my heart, ...he just loves to play, and we play all the time!

Thanks for the nice comment on the South Fla. Brooks King too, many other's also say it is one of the nicest they have ever seen as well, and without sounding biased,...I tend to agree, and could not be happier about how he turned out with his gorgeous yellow coloration as he matured. He is only an '07 youngster, and already just about 60" long and weighs 1140 grams(over 2.5 pounds!).

thanks again buddy!
