Breeding male

Pithons Oct 29, 2009 04:36 PM

Normally, would a male boa still breed when he is about to shed.. Or does he take a break.. I introduced him to a female last week and has gone into blue.. I didnt see much action with him, he just cuddles with the female.. He went into blue so I soaked him for a bit, when I took him out, there was sperm plugs in the water bucket.. Not sure if I should take him out till he sheds then re-introduce or just leave him in.. Thoughts, opinions..

its not at all uncommon for male or females to enter a shed cycle right after intoduction... i would just leave them be sound as if he knows shes there.

I agree with the previous post, this is normal. I have one pair together that are courting, the male just shed last week and the female is going into blue right now. (I also don't separate my boas to feed when they are courting/breeding) Basically, as long as the male is showing interest, just leave them be.
Good luck!

When the male does not show interest? What to do at that point.?? How long do you leave them in.. This male isnt showing 'interest' he just sleeps on her.. Perhaps I should take her out for a couple of days till he sheds, then he may be ready with a couple days off.. And it looks like the female looks thicker, perhaps she is ovulating?

>>When the male does not show interest?

I usually leave the male in for about a week or so once he stops showing interest to see if he starts again. I've seen them take 3-5 day 'breaks' before, especially if one is in blue. Just base it on your observations, in my instance, my male stops interest for about 3 days at a time and then starts again. The female is in blue, male stopped showing interest about 4 days ago. I'm still deciding if I will just leave them together or separate for now and re-introduce once she sheds. I'll probably give him another 2 days before I pull him out for a meal.

You can drive yourself crazy trying to determine swelling, believe me!
