What kind of snake is this?

stumpy041486 Oct 29, 2009 07:39 PM

Anyone know what kind is this? I found it at my door when I came home. It is really small. It is in the bottom of a plastic solo cup so you can tell the size. I am in SE mississippi also. I have never seen a snake like this. I know the pics suck, but it's the best I could do. It's such a small snake.

Looks to be a young sub adult The common name would be brown snake or red belly

That's a Brownsnake (Storeria dekayi). That looks like a small adult based on the shape of the head and neck. A big one is still only 12 inches long and as big around as a pencil.
