sockhead ignorance

fliptop Oct 30, 2009 06:28 PM

Could anyone explain to me what a sockhead is.

I'm pretty sure it's what I started with with the pueblans and even just received a super cool female sockhead. So I have a sense.

BUT: I'll see pics where snakes will be described as sockheads, but don't fit my notion.

Someone gimme the working definition!

Any illustrative pics would be awesome.

I think one is shown at the begining of the movie american pie. LOL.

Yeah,...I see TONS of snakes that aren't anything like what they are supposed to be, and the people don't have a clue what they are talking about either...LOL!

A good "sockhead" specimen stands out BIG-TIME from a normal one, and is very distinctive.

This isn't mine, but it's a good example of a "sockhead" Pueblan milk.

Some splendida's(desert kings) can also have a very distict sock-type nape as well.

I also see so-called "extreme" hypo's for sale that are nothing more than regular hypo's too. It really pays to know what things really are, and what you're looking at in this hobby for sure.

Yeah Doug, I agree, that is a killer specimen!,...I think it's one of Don Shores animals that someone else had on their site.

Thanks much! That pic definitely illustrates what I think a sockhead looks like: AWESOME!

I gotta agree with Doug.
"Buzz words" are all-too-often used inappropriately to sell stuff.
Though I reckon there's varying degrees of "sockheadedness."

Wowsers. Awesome. I really like the sockhead "look". But what seems to occur with them is reduced red (something I DON'T like).

Are the two traits wedded together--i.e., sockhead and oreo/halloween?

On a side note, there was a PBS special called Botanical Desire on last night. The tulip part really seemed to mirror what snake enthusiasts do. I'm going for sockheads.

Good observation.

Some of the cleanest, reddest Pueblans I have seen had very even, more narrow bands. And then when I see a nice sockhead, the red color is either marginal or greatly reduced.
