does this mean my hermanns tort is a boy

She (maybe not she) is 4 years old. I've always thought it was a "she" because of her small tail. But lately she's been sticking out an appendage from her tail often so does this mean it's a boy for obvious reasons? I don't know enough about tortoise anatomy, can anyone help me out?

Nope... this does not indicate you have a male. Females have a similar organ looking like a tortoise penis.

thanks! Then I will still hold true to my feeling that Speedy is a "she". Do you know the name of this organ so I can do some research on it? If not that's ok too.
