MOTLEY MORPH????

aboaslife Nov 01, 2009 08:30 PM

So just trying to find out what ppl think the motley morph is.
A buddy of mine said he believed it to be a color morph that is why the hypo mots dont keep the traditional mot pattern. What do you all think?

From another breeder. Its like why dont the hypo gene work well w the mot gene and why cant you get super hypo super mots.I was just curious as to what other ppl might think. If poss could the mots be both color and pattern morph?

Wirlwindboaz Nov 01, 2009 11:03 PM

I don't think the Motley is a color Morph. I think the Motley is a "pattern" morph.

However, I think it's possible the Hypo is basically a color Morph that strongly affects patterns. So, it's possible the Hypo is combo color/pattern Morph. So, that's what I think.

The Hypo gene can definately "tweek" the original look of any pattern. At least, that's the way it's been, so far.

Sometimes the Hypo gene totally messes with patterns. Other times is just tweeks them a little bit.

Sounds like somebody's just making stuff up, though if that other breeder is correct, I think we will see some new things we didn't expect to see from Motleys in the not too distant future...

Here is a hint:

If the Motley is fundamentally a color mutation, what would the prudent selective breeding partner of this puppy be?

I can't wait to see!

Those super sweet pastels you posted yesterday would make a great pairing with that crazy insane motley

talk about boas dripping in color

LarM Nov 02, 2009 01:06 PM

I'd have to say probably another color mutation. I'm trying to put
myself in that whacky mind of that nice shiny head

Which color mutation would you want to use to increase melanin or
decrease and enhance pattern & color
as with the Pastel Motley shown . ? ...

The Anery has been done but not the Ivory Anery ...?...

What do you think Jeff . ? ..?

Then there is the Blood Boa or the Marron ..?....

Larry Larry Larry Larry, there are a number of Boas that have been illusive since the Motley gene was introduced. How about these?

A really light colored Anerythristic Motley? ie An Ivory Motley. That would really be cool. The Anery Motleys I have seen are barely different than a really dark Motley. There is much work to be done on the Anery Motley front. Close your eyes and imagine this Ivory Motley produced by Jesse VanAtta as a Motley?

How about a super light but not Anery Motley? None exist. The Motley tends to increase the melanin production. So you are fighting a battle but one that could certainly be won I think. Imagine a Motley in the form of this Ultra Pastel?

Oh yea. That is going to be SAHWEEET!

Oh and what about this? A second generation dripping wet with color Pastel Motley? One that has even more color than the one at the top of the page and even less black as well... I am salivating thinking about the beauty that those puppies are going to be. Perhaps something from this different bloodline brought together with a Pastel Motley like the one at the top will boot up that color to the next level:

Oh, and of course there will eventually be the Jungle Motley Blood, that will not muddy up and that in addition to being a genetic powerhouse, will continue to blow away the masses with it's unfading beauty!

Oh yea, I am a dreamer. It's fun to think about what might be eventually when capitalizing on the work that others or that a mutation does for you. There is so much to do that changing one's thinking just a little bit about the nature of a given mutation can open up for the careful selective breeder. Be careful...

I think those are all great directions to go with selective breeding.

All wonderful combination's to use with the Motley Boa Jeff

Sounds like fun !!

Here is a photo of a hypo motley I produced in 2008 to show that hypo motleys can keep the traditional moltey pattern.
