Future food item question

spider916 Nov 01, 2009 08:35 PM

I called a local reptile store looking for some live feeder rabbits for my burms. I am in the process of switching them from gunea pigs to larger food items. The clerk suggested that I use whole chickens from the grocery store. Just remove packageing and heat up in water. Is this a legitimate food source. Are there any bad aspects of using chickens for their food over the long term. I do have to say the chickens are cheaper than rabbits and pigs. Thanks for the advice.

i know many people who do this. the main problem with this, is that snakes can be very tough to get off chickens once they are started on them, or tough to get on chickens when they have been on furry mammals most or all their lives. the best part of chicken as food, is when it comes out. it is absolutely rank and runny and gets all over the enclosure and the snake will need a nice soaking bath.
