KY locale northern pine snake hatchlings

Phil Peak Nov 02, 2009 09:22 PM

Just a follow up. Will and I went six for six on our clutch of KY locale northerns this year. These snakes are now two months old and doing well. Above one of our males.

A sibling female. We are quite sure that this is the only clutch hatched from this locale on the planet this year. It is an honor to have the opportunity to be working with these animals.

A couple of distinctive characteristics of these snakes is the heavily blotched belly and the yellowish coloration. Very unique and interesting snakes.

Thanks to all those that have inquired on our progress and sorry it took so long.

Phil

I know that I'm often seen as a locality detractor but not when the project is with such a distinct and isolated population that is in such need of preservation effort. This is some of the most meritorious work being done by a breeder at this time IMHO.

It sure has taken a lot of time and effort to get this project started and we are very excited to be finally making more progress. Thanks for the kind words Tony. We really appreciate it!

Every pit as awesome as I would have hoped. They look big and robust for two months. Patterns super clean and bright...WOW!!! Such wonderful treasures. Thanks for the follow-up Phil.

Thanks Brad. All the youngsters are doing great and feeding very well. Personality wise they seem to take after their mom - very firery disposition and not the least bit friendly lol! Our male is as laid back as could be and you would never guess that he was hatched in the wild. The female on the other hand resents any intrusion what so ever with extreme violence. Not only will she bite repeatedly as she is being held she also will bite and chew to inflict as much damage as possible. The biting and chewing part is something I have not seen in any other Pit that I have kept.

Kind of at a loss for words to do those justice. Just simply WOW.
Thanks for the update on this very special project. Great work & best of luck with them in the future. Hopefully one day we'll be able to work with this locality up here in Canada.

Thanks! It would be really nice to bring in some additional genetic material to our project but we at least have a foundation to build upon.

They are such beautiful animals Phil. The yellow ground color is so unique. Hope to see you guys again in the near future, if we decide to come up to Ky. next year. It's been several years, but I Had an awesome time herping with you all, and is an experience I will always cherish. Steve

Outstanding Phil! I said it a hundred times if I've said it once, those are my favorite northerns hands down. One of the most handsome snakes alive IMO. Great job and take care.

Very cool, Phil. A belated congrats is in order. I really took notice of how awesome these snakes are @ a recent show in Pasadena when I met Metalpest and saw one of his big beauties.
