my chameleon doesn't appreciate me!

compasscreek Sep 17, 2003 10:11 PM

so a few days ago i bought him a nice long pothos to hang above and next to his cage so he isn't in his cage all day long but now i can't get him off the pothos! he goes up the vines and to the front of the plant and sets there looking around. sometimes he'll come back down the vine to his cage but he spends most of the time up high. the problem is when i try to get him to put him back into his cage he puffs up and bobs his head and gapes at me! so i back off for a few minutes and start again. i have to pull the drapes closed and turn the lights out and then back on to get him onto my hand! i guess he is getting to that age already huh?

You know you are getting experienced when you realize no cham appreciates their human! Can you simply unhook the pothos and bring it down a bit lower than his cage instead? Chams love being up as high as possible and you may coax him to go "home". Or, get a nice branch ( 2-3 feet so you don't seem threateningly close) that you can coax him on to and use that to ferry him to his cage.

i trying taking the pothos down but i need to hands to coax him onto my hand so that didn't work out. besides even when i can cup him to coax him he just anchors himself onto the plant with his feet AND tail!i do have a long forked branch o got specific for him but usually if he doesn't come right away i just leave him alone for a bit and come back later. seems to work better them anything. lol

I guess I was thinking to put the plant on the floor, freeing your hands. I know he won't like being that vulnerable and his cage may seem like a good idea.
