Egg question

el_toro Sep 17, 2003 10:31 PM

OK, I'm relatively new to herps and have only ever had male animals before. I was pretty sure Leeloo was female from her appearance, but now I know - she laid an egg on the enclosure floor.

Question is this: do they regularly lay unfertilized eggs? Is this something that will happen often? I've had this one long enough to be sure it wasn't fertile from the place I got her. And should I boost her calcium dustings to make up for what went into making the egg?

Thanks!

Hi Torey

Are you sure she didn't mate? They maintain sperm for awhile and lay throughout their breeding season and will lay an egg every couple weeks - from what I understand, no personal expreinece yet. Infertile or not, provide a container of moist vermiculite, eco-earth or something for her to lay in rather than just on the floor if you don't use substrate. Here are a couple pages with info.

hope this helps!
