Purplish boas?

GaiasPriestess Nov 05, 2009 03:27 AM

Cut me a little slack, I have forgotten quite a bit about boas over the years. I worked in the reptile room of a pet store years ago, and I remember seeing some boas (both neonates and adults) with a purplish cast to their background color. Does anyone know what subspecies or locality they might have been? I know red and pink are all the rage these days, but I really prefer purple. Also, information about potential size and attitude would be beneficial. Thanks!

From Guyana or Suriname, most of the purple boas are labeled as Guyana.

Bcc can get large, some attaining lengths of 10' most will be around 8' as adults if maintained correctly.

Hope this helps

Joel is correct,...boas from Guyana often have a purplish hue to their coloration.

Thanks to both of you. Am I correct in assuming that a male would most likely end up around 6-7 ft.? Are they as easygoing as most BCC, or any different?

Yes, you can expect a male to get every bit of 6 to 7 plus feet or so.

Very generally speaking, Guyana's can be a bit more nippy than some others like Colombians for example, but individual's are just that, and you can have real easy-going ones as well.
