Here is a question I allways wondered about and for wich Ive had mixed awnsers over the years, hoped you guys could clear it out: are there any zoos, private hobbists, etc, with perenties outside Australia? I herd some time ago that a few zoos in Europe had them. Does anybody know?

I think there were some in European zoos at one time but for now Im not sure. There is a photo in one of Bernd Eidenmullers books Taken by J.Lemm of a female coming out of her burrow [probabley taken in captivity] There was a guy here in the states that had one I think but only one. Who knows he may have crossed it to something else by now?

FR has one. It is a female, he showed us a picture a long time ago on here, fantastic looking animal. Unfortunately that may be the last of them in the hands of a private keeper in the USA.

Cheers,
Mike.

The Dallas Zoo has successfully bred, and currently keeps V. giganteus (among several other species).

I guess there is not much of a market for them.

"I guess there is not much of a market for them"

Market size has nothing to do with it. It's illegal to export them from Aussie and illegal to import them to the U.S. There's a pair for sale in Japan if anyone has an extra $50k lying around and wants to try to get them into the U.S.

Too bad someone couldn't back a female Perentie into one of the males at a nearby zoo.

Yes the Dallas zoo has bred them, but sadly both the male and female died shortly after.
So know they "only" keep 4 or 5 of the offspring.

Steve Erwin once said that handling a Perentie was like picking up a chain saw from the wrong end...looks like you have the magic touch, Nate. Awesome. GOD BLESS...
