Herp Medicine does not equal a bottle of Baytril - Dr. Scott Stahl

Well they did seem to focus on importation only - one of the ladies thought that they (big snakes) shouldn't be in homes at all (danger to the community) and thought they should focus on regulating that - but a few questioned whether it should be state regulated and whether the bill was necessary at all at this point. Looks like they are pushing hard to add the 9 from the recent survey to the list tho. Missed a chunk of testimony cause I had to take the kids to school but will go back and look at it. In all I think it was a tie.

Anyone else wanna share thoughts?

Keep an eye on the herp law forum as well. I did make a post asking for input there too! Unfortunately the government did not confirm with me the time change. I am watching for the replay to go up on the site.

So when is the committee expected to announce a plan of action?

Off hand I do not know, but I am quite sure Kingsnake, PIJAC and USARK will be watching closely.

I watched the last hour and taking into account my glass half empty nature, I think it did not go well. Not for lack of trying on USARK's part but because it seemed like alot of minds were already made up prior to the hearing. They seem to be giving alot of creedance to the USGS report which does not bode well for the big 9

PiedPeddler Nov 06, 2009 02:39 PM

I saw momentum building for including all 9 of the USGS studied species. There was general acceptance that the Burmese are not going to be eradicated from Florida, although there remain many methods of controlling that population that need to be explored. With that being said, it seems they are likely include all 9 as a proactive approach to preventing more "invasions".

Hearing everyones opinions on the hearing it seems like the industry may be taking a major hit. I for one was unable to catch the hearing and am waiting to see it myself.

Does anyone know about how long it will take this bill to become law and take affect?

Regardless of what happens. We can not forget this the next time these people are up for re-election. It sickens me to think that this is what our federal government is concerned about, considering the state of the economy. We need to send these people a message and get them out of office.

If this issue needs to be addressed, then it should be on the state level. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to see anything banned on the state level either, I currently own 4 burms, and I'm not about to give them up; but Washington has definitely got their priorities out of whack. I'm also in the pet trade and don't like to see the government screwing with my livelihood. Keep fighting the good fight.

Amen,

From what I am seeing on the news the GOP is going to have no problem regaining their seats back. I personally can not wait to watch the worlds worst Governor from Colorado get thrown out of his office head first.

I'm not sure how long it will be until they have the video of the hearing archived on the House's website - but I have the first hour and last 45 minutes of it copied. Unfortunately Youtube won't let you upload videos more than 10 minutes long and Kingsnake won't let you link to your website - where I have them uploading. If anyone would like the link to these shoot me an email or PM.
