couple of shots of new cages

brick1 Nov 06, 2009 02:02 PM

Some new cages arrived a while ago, but i had lost the computer/camera adapter so hadnt posted any pictures. The cages are ok so far, would have liked a tad less ventilation, and also im having problems working out how to lock them. The way there made with the central front support means i cant put a standard cage lock on as it wont fit. Otherwise all is good, and most of the adults having their bigger cages now. Im using newspaper as substrate at the moment, but may go to some kind of bark, still trying to work it out. Also as you will see from the thermostat, its pretty high, but needed to put it like this, to get the right temps in the cage.
The room is slowly coming together, and no dave, i havent had an escape for more than a year i think
Got 8 cages up so far, more when i can get off my arse and actually build the other ones.

my tiny little office at the end of the cages

front few of the cage

Looks Good, I may have know just the locks that would work. Mine are installed into glass doors but if you have a small ares in the middle where you could drill throught he center support and not contact the glass at all, the lock mechanism is a removable cylinder. Here's a pic I had in my archives...

I think you could mount the round bracket to your center divide instead of in a hole in the glass as shown, the te removable center piece could prevent either door from opening.

I don't have the details on manufacturer etc on me but have some stuff at home.

thanks for the replies boys. That option you gave dave, is i think the best one, and one i have already thought about. It seems may be the only way, if having a conventional style lock. ie putting a whole thru the centre part.
The biggest problem with the cages, is that the glass is just not long enough, and i really dont want to buy all new glass for each cage. Plus the fact, the glass cannot be replaced without removing the roof. This isnt such a big problem, if i say have one bit of glass get broken, but having to replace 8 cages, is well annoying

learning everyday

nice cages and i love your lock setup lol i used duct tape years back with the fish tanks and screen lids.

seriously tho check out the link i posted below and see if something like that may work. there is a few different places that sell this style and i think they are nicer than the average sliding glass lock.
keyed lock
