Adult male not breeding

gbpython Nov 07, 2009 08:12 AM

I have an 07 male mojave which is 1200 grams that is not breeding. The temperature is perfect for breeding and the females are large enough. My 600 gram male pastel is breeding like crazy. I was wondering if any of you guys know any tricks to get him to start breeding or if any of you have had any experience with this.

Thanks

try placing another males shed in the tub with them on your next breeding attemp. you could also place both males in the same tub and allow them to spar, make sure you monitor the sparring to keep one male from injuring or killing the other. sometimes these tricks work, sometimes they don't.
the main thing is don't panic that he's not breeding yet, it's still very early in the season.

Those were great ideas from last poster.try putting 2 females and him together that could work and has jump started a male for me in the past, waiting for a low pressure system to roll in will get him in the mood and try misting him while in her tub...... just cause your not seeing him lock up does not mean he isn't breeding her and I would be more willing to bet that the female just isn't ready yet. What's his "rotation" schedule? Is he only breeding one female or are you cycling him through a few different girls? And last but ,most important don't give up or worry about it yet it is way to early for that I just had the last clutch of the year laid a week ago and the last time she locked with a male was in June! Good luck and keep at it!!

I have the same problem, one of my male is breeding, the other one is a mojave het ghost and is not breeding so far. But he is a 08, and it's his first year breeding.

It's still early in the season. I know that January and February are the most important dates since that's usually around that time that they start the follicule. So I will be wainting and if he his not breeding now, mean he isn't loosing too much wait. So not that bad. I will react and be searching for help if he doesn't start to breed later in december probably.

You could also try putting another males sperm plug on the tale of the female. The shed of another male is also a good suggestion. But remember patients is a virtue.
