Refusing food - what to do?

Mr_Filth Nov 07, 2009 09:26 AM

Hi,

I've had a CB -09 hognose for six months now. He has been eating well and a lot. The past three meals he has had were rat pinkies and he ate without problems.

Since the last shed he has eaten once. Now it has been four weeks since he ate and he's still refusing food!
He doesn't look skinny, but he has seemingly lost weight.

Should I wait, should I raise temperatures, or should I put him to brumation? He is very active and doesn't seem to be sick nor stressed. (his activity actually concerns me too, normally he's not that active...)

Sounds like to me it's normal male behavior going off feed for a bit for the winter. If you have a scale, I would weigh him every week. Small weight loss is not a problem, but if he starts losing a lot of weight you will need to take more action. Guessing at this point however he's just fine.

One hognose will eat regularly one not. I have one female 280 grams and another 70 grams and they are in the same age !

Best regards
Grzegorz
