What Tri Colored do you have?

KritonKunz Nov 09, 2009 05:00 AM

Hi!
IMHO all Tri Colored Hogs I have seen for sale are Lystrophis pulcher/L. mattogrossensis which are very difficult to distinguish. So I just wondered if anyone is keeping/breeding other species, like "true" semicinctus or dorbignyi.
Thanks in advance, sincerely,
Kriton

My female was sold to me as a semicintus (I have a photo of the labeled container) but in doing a google search and looking at images of the various subspecies I believe she is a pulcher. The pics of the semicintus sure are nice. I'd love one of those, but am guessing I have to stick with getting her a pulcher male if that's what she is.

You are right, that's not semicinctus. Count her ventral scales. If she has more than 147, she's pulcher, if she has less than 141, she's mattogrossensis. But I am sure it's pulcher.

My male has 159 ventral scales, female has 157.
So I presume they are pulcher ??
They where sold matogrossensis to me !!!
