need some help....

I've got these (what I think are) little geckos living out on my back porch. My girlfriend is deathly afraid of lizards, so I thought I would catch one and pretend to put it on her. Makes sense, right? Well, I almost got one when his tail broke off and he scampered away. This was on Sunday night. On Monday night, after the football game, I was outside with my dog and just casually checking out the geckos. There's the same one that lost his tail just the night before, but it's completely grown back! It was kind of pink and didn't match the rest of him, but it was back to it's normal size.

Anyway, when I told my girlfriend what happened she acted like I was nuts. She found a gecko site on the net that claims that the broken tails take several weeks or months even to grow back completely. But I'm 99.99% sure this was the EXACT same gecko.

So, to prove it, I'm thinking of catching one and keeping it in some kind of cage inside. Then, I can break off his tail and see if it grows back by the next day. One problem is that in captivity the tail may not grow back as quickly due to stress or whatever. Also, I'm not sure what to keep him in or what to feed him.

But I'm just positive that it was the same gecko and that his tail grew back completely in a little over 24 hours, but no one believes me. So I'm open to suggestions as to improve my little experiment...

Don´t be so cruel.
Tails grwo back within 6-20 weeks, depending on conditions. You mixed up individuals, definitely!
And please forget about your childish plans.....

I have a wild gecko that always stays around my house he lost his tail 3 weeks ago i think a bird tryed to get him, anyway its still in the process in growing back i feed him some of my crickets once a week he loves it i keep him out side where he belongs because thats where he was born he wasnt captive bred so keep all wild animals outside, he would die in a cage, so just study them in there own habitat its more enjoyable go get them some crickets maybe they will hand feed, anyway theres lots of websites to read up about all kinds of animals maybe you will learn something.

nope not possible... not over night or in 24 hours...takes a long long time to grow back. You saw another one that looked just like the one that had broken its tail. Simply impossible!!!!!!!

yeah, I've sort of resigned myself to the fact that I must have seen a different gecko the second night.
