12' long x 30" deep x 30" high would be my minimum.

I would also make it to cages bolted together to aid in maneuverability and construction materials.

Isn't 30" a bit narrow? wouldn't 4x8 be better? Works out in materials and gives him more room to turn around

As a general rule I consider anything deeper than 30" to be hazardous to the keeper, unless completely walk in. Reason being you expose more than an arm at those greater depths. OP is free to make their own decisions but read and heed, there are hundreds of cases of retic bites from animals that were considered handle-able.

Good Luck

If at all possible with a large constrictor, when designing the cage allow for a divider that can be slid in place from the outside so as to block off one side of the cage. With that feature, you can make the cage as deep as you like.

For example, 2 - 6'long x 4'deep x 30"tall cages, the front side of each is a secure door, the adjacent sides each have a 3" frame to keep the cage rigid. Also there is a "U" shaped spacer, 48" x 30" OD and 45" x 27" ID between them. Thicker than the divider you are using. All three securely through-bolted together making it one solid cage where it sits. The open side can be in the front or top, your choice. Note the spacer leaves a larger gap then the side frames making a very secure channel to slide the divider into. Also can have a tall/narrow "door" to cover the open slot when not being used.

By sliding the divider in you will effectively divide the cage in half and the one without the snake in it is free and clear to enter and clean without risk of being bit.

One other advantage of this design is moving the cage is relatively easy when broken down into 2 6' x 4' x 30" sections.
