HELP!!! TOAD SPRAYED WITH RUBBING ALCOHOL

sallie_keeper Sep 18, 2003 01:13 AM

I just got a dumped cane toad that was sprayed down with rubbing alcohol....BY MISTAKE.... The animal shelter he was dumped at thought there was water in bottle, and he got a good dose of it.

I washed him off immediately with cool water, but still worried about him.. THE ONLY VET TO DO PHIBS WILL NOT TOUCH THIS GUY!!!

I did put in a "dr. turtle" block, I use this for my aquatic newts. THIS TOAD HAS BEEN STAYING IN HIS WATER TUB FOR DAYS AT A TIME.... What can I do to help him heal?? HOW do I know if he is not well? He is so warty, it's hard for me to tell if his skin has any wounds on it.

PLEASE HELP... I feel so bad for this guy, he has been through SO MUCH, and now this...

thanks,
harpy

Let him soak all he needs and change the water several times a day. Keep misting him with conditioned water and keep a close eye on him. Poor bugger. First sign of not feeling well is refusal to eat.

Hope he is ok!

Good Luck

Thanks for all the response. Now for an update on the TOAD OF DOOM(his name)...

The toad is eating normally, yesterday he took couple pinkies and a dozen crickets... So that is a good sign. I was concerned because he was staying in his water tub 24 hours a day...SLEEPING IN IT... BUT he got out to eat, so maybe all will go well.

I looked at him today and he looks normal. I will check him over every few days to see if there is any change... I hate to stress him out too much...Poor little guy is terrified of me...cant say that I blame him after what he must have gone through at the
shelter.. The toad was found, in a fishtank, in front of a humane society, then dumped on Petco, then me...HIS HOME FOR LIFE

How to get your wife to like toads; 1.Get a male toad. 2.Get him to hug your wifes wrist (amplexus). 3. Tickle him so he chirps in protest. 4.Say "Awww, he likes you". Note; Make sure he pees first or you may receive bodily harm during this procedure.

I'm sorry, it put up about 14. I clicked "Post message" nothing happened for about 5 minutes. When it finally posted, it had a whole list of responses (?).

I'm glad that the little guy is doing well. The only thing I'd change about his care is to avoid the pinkies. They are very high in fat and can cause blindness if fed too often. Best to just avoid them too often. Besides, toads can easily become over weight and pinkies will only ensure that. Stick with crickets as a staple and vary his diet with earthworms, meal worms, flies or any other soft bodies insect on occation. Careful of too many earthworms too because they are pretty fatty as well. 3-5 crickets every other day should be plenty for him.

Enjoy him and congrats on your new baby!!
