Tight fit...

monklet Nov 10, 2009 05:07 PM

...99% snake/1% air! Was looking all over for this girl when I finally noticed her peeking out of the hole in this hide box...still can't believe she could/would fit in there...amazing!

btw, not an escape, this was in a secure room but with plenty of nice hides.

Now I know what to do with all my empty cigar boxes. A secure snake is a happy snake.

once I started to realized snakes' capacity to squeeze into the smallest of spaces, I began to understand why we rarely see them in the wild!

I was doing a herp survey at an army munitions facility in Texas and was amazed where we found two and three foot cottonmouths. They were tucked inside the rotted out hollows of two and three inch diameter trees that had been cut down around a creek. It was amazing to see them coiled so tightly inside those small spaces.

Hey, Brad, great meeting you @ the Pasadena show. Is that a cigar box? Maybe the snake just wanted to enjoy a good stogie.

Oh yeah, she's one of the few ladies who enjoys a fine cigar
...yep that is sort of a cigar box. It's from Michael's, they sell a few basswood boxes but for some reason discontinued the one simple cigar box that I and my snakes like the most. The boxes make great hides. All you need is a hole saw. You can even glue two together to make a two story hide.

Cool. Never thought of using cigar boxes, and as I am a cigar afficionado, I've had quite a few pass through my hands.

I've got a 7' retic that uses a 12 quart rubbermaid as a hide. It's insane how much snakes can squeeze.

pretty lady btw

Thanks man. Got pics of that Retic in the rubbermaid?
