Ultratherm heat mat vs. Flexwatt

tbone21 Nov 12, 2009 03:41 PM

I am going to be buying two four foot ABS plastic cages from constrictor northwest. Now I am looking at the heating... they have the heat mat for $30 dollars and 2 feet heat tape prewired for $20. I have never worked with heat tape I have only used the mats from pet stores so looking for some knowledge which better and is it worth the $10 bucks? Any advice appreciated... Thanx in advance....

i'd go with the flexwatt. if for some reason you decide to sell your cage and go with something smaller you can always cut the flexwatt to your needs.

just remember to always use a thermostat inline to control the heat.

IMO, if you are not comfortable cutting the Flexwatt and attaching wires, then get the Ultratherm. The Ultratherms are essentially just like Flexwatt but in a thicker mylar coating and with the power cord molded onto the heater.

Flexwatt is nice because it gives you the ability to make the heater any length you want. That can come in very handy for certain applications.
