Age and size

I have often seen people that are in a hurry to breed their snakes ask the big question. How old and big does the male need to be. Well I have an 08 pastel sunglow from frank and an 06 female ebv I have planned to breed. Now for the past month I have been introducing to just to get to know the female. I'd leave him in for a day maybe 2 then remove him. By no means was I prepared or expecting what I saw tonight. I went in opened the cage to see this little boy that's maybe barely pushing 3 feet courting !! I looked in one more time later on just thinking no way. Well having disturbed the shy female she pulls away and here I see the male rub what had to be himipenes that looked no longer than a quarter of an inch along her body. My jaw dropped.

I think with males it's age more than size,, I have had a 15month 3.5' male court, they don't really seem to breed well though until at least 2 years of age... Just what I have seen in my time.. I don't breed females now until they are 4 years old... I have bred them at 3 years with success, but also some tragedies.. 4 year olds seem to always produced bigger, healthier, problem free litters... Once again just my observations..

For the record I was not even putting these 2 together for a breeding attempt.I was merely starting the introductions for next year. It would make her 4 and him at least 18 months. I never asked frank what month this male was born in.He can't be over 15 months!?! I just have a hard time imagining a male even gettin anything accomplished with such small hemipenes. My female is deffinantly big enough. She's thick with muscle.
