Garter isn't eating anymore.

patman69_69 Sep 18, 2003 06:18 AM

I just recieved a garter snake approx. 3 weeks ago, from a friend who didn't want it who got it out of the blue. I went to the pet store and they told me to feed him HOPPERS. I didn't know when the last time he fed was so I gave him 1 hopper, waited a day and gave him another. I was told to feed him after he poops. So 5 days later i fed him again, and then a week after that. However, when i tried to feed him a week later he wouldn't. It's now been 1 week and 4 days since he ate last. just tonight i tried feeding him a Dew worm but he doesn't seem interested. He is still very active, but I am wonderng if perhaps he isn't eating because I fed him too much in the first week. Any help is greately appreciated, and also, should I be giving him variety in his diet?

thank you.

My garters like feeder fish "roughly 10 centce each cant go wrong there" and frogs however I have to catch the frogs as noone sell s tree frogs around here. Buy some feeder fish and put them in its water boal

It might be full. Mice with fur take a while to digest, especially at hopper size. I feed my Thamnophis when I have them fuzzies at most. Try to stray from feeders and use frozen baitfish. Do not use frogs as frogs are highly contaminated with parasites. Andy
