My Dad found this guy in the parking lot of the grocery store.
Can anyone identify it?

It's a beautiful example of a banded California kingsnake.

Hey thanks. I had a hunch about a kingsnake, but I've never kept one before.

This guy is lucky to be alive, having been found in a parking lot far from any cover. I'm afraid he hasn't escaped unscathed though. He's got a back injury, possibly broken? There is a bump that bends at an unnatural angle. I tried to take a picture to give an idea.

Should I attempt to feed with this injury? I've got a pinky thawing now. Any suggestions on his injury?

Take him to the vet to have it checked for the severity of the break. scott

Well a vet is a good idea, but realeasing him isn't. I'm in northeast Indiana. I don't think our climate is very good for California Kingsnakes.

I get it. Its an escapee. I thought that guy looked a bit clean cut lol. I figured you were in CA though. Yeah, just get it to a vet and good luck with your new pet (if you choose to keep it). Andy
