Worms for Beardie?

Beardedhuman Nov 14, 2009 04:04 PM

I own a colony of lobster roaches. My male bearded dragon eats the although some days he's not overly excited. I feed him roaches twice a week and he always has a fresh salad available to him. Recently I bought a pack of superworms. He went nuts, he couldn't eat them fast enough. I was told that they are high in fat. Is a once weekly feeding of superworms okay. Where can I buy good quality ones online

Once a week is absolutely fine.Keep in mind that he may "hold out" for those once he gets a regular taste of them. You can do them twice a week in smaller quantities, spreading out the "fatty" meal instead of a load of them at once.Easy to keep, too.Room temp in a bucket or suitable plastic container[they can]t get out, even as low as 6",dump in a container of oatmeal or bran, add large carrot, sweet potato slices[or potato]and even the thick stems from the greens. Most cricket suppliers carry them.Look it up online.

superworms are not high in fat, at least no more than most insect foods. They can be fed a couple times a week no problem.

Other good feeder insects for dragons are butterworms, silkworms and hornworms (not wild caught, as wild ones are toxic!). Waxworms are high in fat and shouldn't be fed often, maybe a few a month if that.
