Can anyone recommend a BP breeding book?

GaiasPriestess Nov 15, 2009 05:06 AM

I'm looking for a book that has the basics as well as tips and tricks, and things that you won't learn from most mass production books (Barron's, TFH, though some of their authors are good), such as which genetics are weak and possibly a primer on marketing (or at least reading the market). If any of the people who have been in the BP or anchietae (or both) breeding business for a long time have written a book I'd be all over that. Thanks in advance.

VPI's Ball Pythons of the world is probably the most in debt ball python book.

NERDs complete ball python book is another one that people like.

Dr. Seward's ball python breeding video with the Sutherlands has good material for breeding.

You can find most any breeders breeding recipe on their website - tweak it to work for your animals - the rest comes from experience working with the animals and you're not likely to get that in a book.

Good luck!

The VPI book is the most comprehensive, McCurley's "Complete" full book is also good.

McCurley has an abreviated version in the Pro Breeder's Series that is just over 10 bucks, and it covers the basics pretty well.

Colette Sutherland of BallPython.com also has an inexpensive ball manual, TFH I believe, and that is actually my current fave for the paperback editions. Quite complete, and up to date husbandry wise.
