Mid October Herping

reako45 Nov 15, 2009 02:30 PM

Usually October is when I pack it in as far as herping goes, but a little rain and boredom led to me cruising a local road where people said they'd seen snakes. Within the first 30 min I found two SD Gophers. The first was a DOR neo. To date, this guy's the biggest Gopher I've cruised.

Kept him overnight so my daughter, Hadyne, (tired after school) and her classmates could see him...

A few years ago I found a 5ft female gopher crossing the road Nov 11 at 11am. Its the latest in the year I've ever cruised a snake!

nice find....

Always good to see the kids getting involved.........

No pituophis today but we did find a big fat blk racer laying in a patch of sun under some old oaks. we are going to stick a fiber-optic scope down some tortoise burrows later in the week so maybe we will get lucky enough to discover a pine......

thanks for the images!
