Taking photos for new web site

Rick Millspaugh Nov 15, 2009 07:24 PM

Tried to get a few photos for our new website (not up and running yet). What do you think?

"Red" (that's her name) 1 year old female

Close up of a young female (a little fuzzy)

A couple young babies, they both kept bolting in different directions.

I really like the pics. Can you please tell us how you take them? I have terrible pics and have tried everything I know.

I wish I could take as good of photos as some I have seen posted. The worst my vision gets with age, the harder it is to get photos in good focus. There is usually one decent pic out of ten. An SLR camera makes a lot of difference, older Cannons and Nikons can be picked up at decent prices; I actually get better close-up auto focus out of my older Canon 8 mp than I have been able to from my newer Canon. Point and shoots can take great pics but usually lack depth in the photo compared to the SLR's.

I think my question is more about the lighting. I use light boxes, sun, flash, lights, and get one good pic in 100. How did you light the first dragon ?

Thanks

about 2 feet away from where the afternoon sun was hitting. I prefer taking photos in the shade, just out of the sun but I do have problems with a yellow wash sometimes from the sun or a blue wash if I am too far away from the sunlit area. Light boxes are good too but nothing beats outside. My problems are focus and patience... I’m not good with either anymore. I usually give up before I get the photo I really want.

Same lighting a few weeks ago, head is out of focus though. I gave up before I got a great pic

Haha. You light my pics, and I'll take yours.

I tried your advice and like the results. Although my subject refused to give me a nice pose. Thanks
