question about cage doors...

evercraig190 Nov 15, 2009 09:05 PM

I have a custom built cage that is has three seperate cages stacked up...there is a pic below..anyways im wondering what would be the easiest type of door that i can make. i dont want to go with plexi glass cause it will scratch easily ..i broke my 40gal breeder tank so i will need to do something fairly quick to move my beardie..i am just looking for some ideas..thanks in advance...

I like sliding glass doors for cages at least 30" wide. Anything less than that and you really don't get enough access to the cage interior for routine water changes, feeding, etc.

I kept my bearded dragon in a cage with sliding glass doors and the only problem I had was the occasional cricket making its way through the gap where the two panels overlap. I could have filled it with weather stripping but instead I just shoved some folded paper towels in there when I fed a lot of cricets.

So my vote is plastic glass track with 1/4" glass panels. Make sure to get the edges ground and to apply wax or silicone spray to the lower track.

I use plexi but i have snakes so no nails to scratch with. I use fold down doors just because it gives access to the whole cage. With a beardie that might not be an issue since you don't worry about aggressive animals.

thanks for the replies, i think im gonna go with screen doors because of the ventilation factor..as of right now, it is 3 solid walls so the front being ventilated will make for good air flow.. i would have loved to go with sliding doors but the width is about 32" so not much room to clean and what not......thanks again..

with something like you have pictured i would go with drop down doors for full access.

but that's just me.
