Strange Eating Behavior Emerging

jeffrosoccer6 Nov 15, 2009 11:50 PM

My year old spotted python has a strong appetite, but lately has been acting weird during feeding time. He has been eating fuzzy mice for a while now but lately he will get the mouse half down his mouth and then spit it back out. He acts as though he just can't open his mouth as wide as before even though they are the same size he has been eating.

I am going to try a small one again to see if he can eat those.

Is he in shed, or did he have a problem shedding his head last time?

No he had a nice shed last time, and is not in shed now (at least doesnt appear to be)

He has eaten since my last post, he actually ate two fuzzies that night, but the way he is eating is still different than before. It takes a long time and he always tries to eat them sideways... and cant maneuver them the right way. Even if i am hold the mouse right over him (he eats f/t) he will bite the head initially and then try to eat it sideways.

Maybe he is just "slow" in the head, lol.

Possibly getting overweight or a slight mouth/respiratory infection.
Also make sure hot spot and ambient temperatures are still where they should be. Hopefully, that is the cause.
